7/15/05 Democratic Idiocy We are at a crisis in our age. There are religious zealots who are trying to kill us by the millions. This is not a political dispute, it is an all-out war. They are fighting to the death, and they'll kill the most innocent among us in the most brutal way if they can. And the Democrats are worried that we might be treating them too harshly when we capture them if we ever scare them, intimidate them, or make them uncomfortable. Wake up and smell the coffee, you idiots. And even my good friend Sen. John McCain is concerned that it will be bad for our troops who might be captured if we don't treat these men as if they are prisoners of war. My friend, ask any of those soldiers if they expect to be able to request the obligatory cigarettes, chocolate bars, and magazines from the commissary when they're captured by the people who behead reporters and humanitarian workers. The idea that we can play by the rules these subhuman monsters flout with every single act every single day is ludicrous. It is terribly frustrating and frightening to think that our freedom and our very lives are to any extent entrusted to people who are so obsessed with comity and political correctness that they are incapable of facing reality. Sen. Edward Kennedy objected to testimony from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff who pointed out that the men detained at Guantanamo Bay do not qualify as prisoners of war. Teddy, the Geneva Conventions are available in English. Have you ever read them? How about just one of the qualifications you have to satisfy in order to be classified as a prisoner of war: they must operate in combat "having a fixed distinctive sign recognizable at a distance". This means wearing a uniform that identifies them as being military. These men do not do this. They also do none of the other things required to be considered a prisoner of war. According to the Geneva Conventions, these men can be tortured to death, summarily executed, or burned at the stake. No one committing such acts against them would be guilty of any violation of the Geneva Conventions (but they would be violating the laws of the United States of America, which might or might not catch the eye of some of the Justices on the Supreme Court). Are you listening, Teddy? Is any of this getting through? Oh, he nodded off again. Since we weren't talking about all the language in the Constitution penned by Thomas Jefferson explaining how women have the right to exterminate their own children if they don't want stretch marks, he got bored. He's too busy scoring political points to bother with annoyances like facts, truth, justice, honor, and the right to self-defense. Our soldiers have no hope of fair treatment at the hands of these vicious monsters, even though every one of ours is conforming to all of the requirements of a prisoner of war. Treating these people who deserve to be burned at the stake to fine, culturally appropriate meals is bad enough. Refusing to intimidate them or put them under significant stress in the attempt to save our soldiers, who will clearly be beheaded anyway, is the height of idiocy. Refusing to promise the terrorists that for every person they kill a million Muslims in a city complicit in their terror is irresponsible. I hope we don't end up needing the ultimate wake-up call (a mushroom cloud) before we figure out that we have to take the gloves off and use the deterrent force we wield to make an end of their Satanic movement. I fear that not even that could wake Ted Kennedy from his politically drunken stupor. Modified: 08/11/2005 |
