7/7/05 Solidarity We stand together with London, Britain, and all of the world powers that resist terror. We stand against al Qaeda, its splinter groups and terror cells throughout the world, and anyone who attacks the innocent, the elderly, the weak and infirm in the attempt to achieve world hegemony. They cannot win, because, like Mayor Ken Livingstone who spoke on behalf of the people of London, we will not yield. This is not the first time a gang of war criminals and terrorists has tried to deter the people of London and Britain from pursuing justice in the world. It is not the first time they will fail. A self-described al Qaeda splinter group calling itself "The Secret Organization of al Qaeda in Europe" has claimed responsibility for the attacks on London's subways and buses, which have killed dozens and injured hundreds (as I write this reports are still coming in). The group further claims the attacks as retaliation for Britain's role in Afghanistan and Iraq. This claim is a futile attempt to rewrite history (although I do not doubt that some left-wing nuts will carry their water, as usual). The 9-11 attacks were not in retaliation for any overt military action in which we had engaged. Our attack on Afghanistan was clearly in retaliation for 9-11. So this claim is a bit like a man who attacked his neighbor first, suffering the counterattack, bombing the neighbor he attacked and claiming justification for it. Only the most foolish or biased audience could be convinced to accept such an empty justification. These are war criminals, every one. Anyone who fights on their side is a war criminal. These are the vicious brutes we have in detention at Guantanamo Bay, and they are treated there much more gently than they deserve. They merit the same fate as those whose values they share, the Nazis. They deserve to be defeated, captured, tried, and executed as war criminals. They will continue to kill innocent people at every opportunity, because they are too weak and cowardly to face us in the open. But they will also continue to fail to achieve any of their strategic objectives, as they have failed every time in the past. We will not back out of Iraq and leave them to achieve the despotic tyranny they aspire to create. We will not fail to capture and detain their membership, and thwart evil plot after evil plot. We will not stint in our efforts to hold governments that side with them accountable, and bring them down militarily if we must. Hear me, terrorists: You can kill us, but you cannot defeat us. You paint yourselves endlessly as subhuman brutes, and desecrate the God you claim to serve by killing the precious people he loves and yearns to save. The best you can hope to achieve for other Muslims in the Middle East and elsewhere is destruction. Ultimately, however, you will pave the way for their liberation from you and your allies. And I know that that is your greatest fear. Freedom is the enemy of all despotism. And it always triumphs in the end, as you will learn. May the lesson be painful and permanent for every one of you who refuses to yield to humanity. Modified: 07/14/2005 |
