Liberal Scorecard, Election 2004
This election cycle has made fools of the liberals again. So many things
they believed and said and predicted have failed to come true, that the
bankruptcy of their cause should be obvious to everyone.
-
They
predicted Kerry would cruise to victory on the shoulders of the young voters of
America, who don't answer polls because they don't have "land lines."
Wrong. The percentage of youth voters was stagnant. Lesson:
You can't motivate a slacker.
-
They
believed the economy would trump character and security. Wrong.
Moral values and security won out. Lesson: Never underestimate the
importance of a moral center.
-
They
believed Bush had overplayed his hand by proposing a Constitutional amendment
defining marriage as between a man and a woman. Wrong. He
motivated people who care about moral issues to come out and vote for him.
Lesson: Never forget that most Americans hold traditional values.
-
They
thought they could use a campaign of lies and deceptions to convince the
American people that George W. Bush was guilty of lies and deceptions.
Wrong. They convinced the American people that John Kerry would say or
do anything to get elected. Lesson: Never paint your pot black when you
want to try to make the kettle look blacker than it is.
-
They
thought that hypothetical plans that might work would be more attractive than
actual plans with flaws. Wrong. The American people never
believed Bush had had no plans, and they recognize the limits of any plan
(particularly one that's no more than the idea to have a plan). Lesson:
When you don't have any cards, you can't show them, and you can't bluff.
-
They
thought they could convince the nation that Bush was responsible for lost jobs
and that the economy is stagnant or in the tank. Wrong. The
people recognized that job losses accelerated after 9-11 and that the economy is
now growing at a substantial rate. Lesson: Perhaps you can fool the
nation once in a generation (1992) into thinking the economy is in bad shape
when it isn't...
I could go on. But I think the point is amply made. CBS, ABC, CNN,
NBC, and The New York Times (and many other big papers) wanted Bush voted
out of office, but despite their efforts to hide the truth or paper it over with
lies and spin, they failed to convince the people who made the difference.
Their delusion that their twisted view of reality is more enlightened than the
views of normal people who have to make their way in the real world led them
down the garden path once more. May that trend continue indefinitely, or
until they begin to accept reality, whichever comes first.
